Next to Normal

If emotional rollercoasters are your thing, if you know someone who struggles with Bipolar, if you simply love the very best in musical theatre, Next To Normal is for you. This is what happens when an ordinary suburban mum’s bipolar is getting steadily worse, examining the impact it has on her and her family. It’s sad and happy, despairing and hopeful, and it sold out performance after performance at the Donmar Warehouse. Now it’s transferring to the West End with a crack creative team behind it and a cast that’ll be announced nearer the time.

Before its Off-Broadway debut, Next To Normal workshop performances won it the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Score. It opened on Broadway in April 2009, nominated for 11 Tony awards the same year and winning Best Original Score, Best Orchestration, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It’s the 8th musical in history to win a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and has rarely been off the stage, loved the world over thanks to themes that every one of us recognises and empathises with, whoever we are and wherever we live. It’s beautiful, and you’re going to love it.

The set, the subject, the music and the casting was absolutely incredible. I'm so so unbelievably happy I decided to choose this show!!
Be prepared to question yourself and be challenged. This show will affect anyone who has parents, been a parent or has friends or friends who have children or are parents. A powerfully evocative exploration into mental health and who of us are not mentally challenged on a daily basis?

Sensitive Theme, Beautifully and Wonderfully Presented
This musical tells a story that is a taboo for many. It is presented so sincerely and beautifully. All the actors were excellent as well. Impressive from start to finish.

Beautiful story telling
A sensitive story beautifully told through music, song and words. Small cast portrays a story of love, lose, grief and mental health in a sensitive way which is engaging and heart wrenching in parts. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Is an absolutely must see. I wasn’t expecting very much from the the play, even though I knew it was a success, but I finished the play in tears!
