My Master Builder

Henrik Ibsen, the so-called father of realism, wrote a classic called The Master Builder. Now the US playwright and novelist Leila Raicek has reimagined his masterpiece, renaming it My Master Builder. It's being directed by the living theatre legend Michael Grandage (Disney’s Frozen, Orlando, My Policeman), and stars everyone's favourite Scottish actor Ewan McGregor, on stage for the first time in 17 years. Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars, A Gentleman in Moscow, Fargo, Halston, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jerusalem – City of Faith and Fury, and many more have made him an acting legend. The Set and costume design is by Richard Kent, the composer and sound designer is Adam Cork, and the play is produced by the Michael Grandage Company with MarketStall and Seaview Productions.

The drama is set in the expensive New York State summer resort of the Hamptons, in a mansion where the mega-rich Solnesses are holding a party on 4th July. The celebration marks Elena Solness's architect husband Henry's latest building, and everything is going with a swing until Mathilde arrives unexpectedly, an ex-student of Henry's with whom he once had a dalliance. As the delicate balance of their marriage is rocked, they face relationship-changing revelations about the vulnerabilities we expose when we let ourselves fall in love. Big drama, not to be missed.
