His work has been consistently topped the list of West End theatrical must-sees since he formed the Michael Grandage Company in 2012. Now the acclaimed director, Michael Grandage himself, is back with two new works that will play simultaneously for a limited run in 2018 – Red, a revival production that premiered under him in 2009, and The Lieutenant of Inishmore, another revival that brings him together again with acclaimed writer Martin McDonagh.
Red is a production based on the life of American painter, Mark Rothko – the title is taken from a series of paintings commissioned in the 1950s that Rothko refused to finish for his patrons at The Four Seasons restaurant in New York.
The production, written by award-winning screenwriter John Logan, first premiered in 2009 under Grandage during his tenure as Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse. It transferred to Broadway in 2010, where it won six Tony Awards, including Best New Play, Best Director and Best Featured Actor in a Play (for Eddie Redmayne). Now it returns to the West End, with Alfred Molina reprising his original role as Rothko and Alfred Enoch taking on the part of his young assistant.
Red plays at Wyndham’s Theatre for just eleven weeks, with previews starting on 4 May 2018. Book now to see the award-winning director make his return to the London spotlight after the success of his latest work, Labour of Love.
